Eightco faces $207.6M loss and dilution

Eightco Holdings carried a $207.6 million cumulative unrealized loss on its position in Worldcoin’s WLD token at June 30 as the customer responsible for about 99% of its operating revenue deteriorated, creating two distinct pressure points for Eightco’s WLD treasury and operations.

The company held 283.45 million WLD with a $322.7 million cost basis and a $115.1 million fair value, according to its Aug. 7 quarterly filing. WLD accounted for 50.5% of Eightco’s $228.0 million digital-asset portfolio. The company reported no operating revenue from the portfolio during the period.

Those numbers are a June 30 accounting snapshot, not a current mark of the WLD treasury. Eightco said in an Aug. 6 company update that its WLD balance had risen to 301.97 million tokens as of Aug. 5. At the rounded $0.31 price displayed by CryptoSlate’s WLD market page on Aug. 8, the June 30 quantity implied a value of about $87.9 million, roughly $234.8 million below its filed cost basis. That is illustrative market arithmetic, not a current reported accounting loss. The company did not disclose the cost or funding source for the additional 18.52 million tokens, so the current position’s aggregate cost basis cannot be determined.

The operating problem is more immediate than the WLD treasury’s accounting loss. Eightco’s operating subsidiary Forever 8 said its dominant customer’s financial condition had worsened and that the customer disposed of company-funded inventory without authorization. Eightco suspended new order fulfillment and stopped buying inventory for the relationship. The customer stress contributed to a $7.8 million credit-loss allowance, including $2.6 million against trade receivables and a fully reserved $5.2 million receivable tied to the inventory disposition. Management warned that Forever 8 revenue could be materially reduced or eliminated.
